Rocky Dawuni Returns with "Beats of Zion"

Ghanaian star and humanitarian activist Rocky Dawuni is back with a new record and a video in anticipation. Check out the album’s title track “Beats of Zion” right here:

Dawuni is an international reggae artist—his last album Branches of the Same Tree was nominated for the 2016 Grammy for “Best Reggae Album”—but his latest record is pretty stylistically diverse within that space. Elements of Latin pop and highlife come through strongly and he’s got a few guest turns from fellow Ghanaian stars Stonebwoy, Wiyaala and Sarkodie, as well as the Argentine dancehall star Alika.

The press release outlines Dawuni's a global approach to the recording:

“Beats of Zion was born out of my desire to use my diverse global musical influences and exposure to various traditions to paint a multicultural musical vision of the world that I perceive. The beginning of the year saw me visit Ethiopia and India. In Ethiopia, I visited Lalibela, witnessing ancient Christian rites, and my journeys in India also exposed me to its diverse spiritual culture and the shared similarities I saw to Africa.”

Beats of Zion is out March 9 via Six Degrees Distribution.
