Video Premiere: Yaadcore Needs You to “Say That You Love Me”

Coming up as a DJ before making his mark as the main attraction, Yaadcore demonstrates his skills as a reggae vocalist with an expressive performance on “Say That You Love Me.” Released as a single last Friday on Munich-based Oneness Records, the song shares its riddim with the rest of the compilation, City Riddim, but Yaadcore’s melodic sensibilities and economical writing make the tune all his own. Oh, and the video sure doesn’t hurt: Just after the three-minute mark Yaadcore unfurls his truly glorious dreads.

Yaadcore’s full-length album Reggaeland is due out Feb. 3, 2022, coming out on the 12 Yaad label and Delicious Vinyl Island, the new Caribbean music imprint from iconic L.A. indie label, Delicious Vinyl. Buzz has been building with the release of “Nyquil (Spliff Light A Spliff),” and other singles but “Say That You Love Me” is a new gear from the Mandeville, Jamaica-born artist, a pleading, vulnerable love song, a yearning narration sold by Yaadcore’s vocals.

As a DJ, festival runner and label runner, this is his world. With the collaboration with Lee Scratch Perry and the Green Lion Crew, and a reworking of 1982’s “Police in Helicopter” that featured Jah9, already in the can, Yaadcore has demonstrated his roots beyond on a doubt, but with “Say That You Love Me” he’s showing his range.

Check out the full City Riddim compilation here and keep an ear to Yaadcore's Soundcloud page.
