Emmanuel Jal Cuts Loose with "Rakaboom"

Emmanuel Jal has come a long way from his harrowing days as a war child in Sudan. Now based in Toronto, Jal returns frequently to East Africa, engaging in a variety of social justice projects.

His music has also grown sunnier. This new video, "Rakaboom," is a lively love song sung in his native South Sudanese language, Naath. Shot in Lamu, Kenya with producer Jesse Bukindu, and sponsored by the "ethical footware brand" Twins for Peace, it's a playful blend of joyous music, fashion and hope for a better future in East Africa.
